When Keeping the Car No Longer Makes Sense

An older car can reach the point where another repair bill, MOT failure or mechanical problem is more trouble than the vehicle is worth to you.

MJ Scrap Cars & Recovery buys unwanted vehicles across South London and Surrey, including non-runners, damaged cars, MOT failures and vehicles with expensive mechanical faults.

Give us the registration, make, model, vehicle condition and collection postcode. We can assess the details and discuss a current quote.

If the vehicle still has useful life remaining, it may be suitable for repair. If it has genuinely reached the end of its life, it can enter the authorised treatment and recycling route.

What Type of Vehicle Can You Sell?

You do not have to wait until the vehicle is completely beyond repair before asking for a quote.

1

MOT Failures

If the repairs required after an MOT failure are more than you want to spend, selling may be the simpler option.

2

Mechanical Faults

Engine, gearbox, clutch, electrical and other major faults can quickly make a car expensive to keep.

3

Accident Damage

Accident or body damage does not automatically mean the vehicle has no value.

4

Non-Runners

The vehicle does not need to start or drive. Tell us whether it rolls, steers and can be accessed.

5

Older Cars

Sometimes servicing, maintenance and another repair bill simply stop making sense.

6

Unwanted Vans

Vans and light commercial vehicles can also be assessed for purchase and collection.

Selling Your Vehicle

A Straightforward Four-Step Process

We start with the vehicle details and where it needs collecting from.

1

Tell Us About the Vehicle

Give us the registration, make, model, condition and collection postcode.

2

Agree the Quote

We assess the vehicle details and agree the purchase price before collection.

3

Arrange Collection

We agree the collection arrangements and check anything that may affect vehicle access.

4

Payment & Transfer

Payment is made by bank transfer and the relevant transfer details can be dealt with at handover.

What Happens to Your Vehicle?

Not every unwanted vehicle follows exactly the same route.

Some cars have genuinely reached the end of their useful life. Others may still have enough useful life to make repair and continued use practical.

End-of-Life Vehicle

Vehicles Being Completely Scrapped

When a qualifying vehicle is being completely scrapped, it enters the authorised treatment and recycling route.

The Authorised Treatment Facility handles the Certificate of Destruction where one applies.

For a qualifying car or light van that is completely destroyed, the Certificate is normally issued within seven days.

Repairable Vehicle

Vehicles With Useful Life Remaining

Some unwanted vehicles may still be suitable for repair and return to use.

A vehicle that is repaired rather than completely destroyed does not receive a Certificate of Destruction.

If the intended route for your vehicle matters to you, ask when arranging the sale.

Payment & Paperwork

Bank Transfer & DVLA Transfer Support

When a vehicle is being sold for scrap, payment is made electronically rather than using physical cash.

MJ uses bank transfer for vehicle payments. The agreed amount can be confirmed before the vehicle changes hands.

The relevant motor-trade details on the V5C can be dealt with at collection, and Mick can help with the transfer process.

The registered keeper should make sure DVLA is notified that the vehicle has changed hands.

Need the Vehicle Recovered Instead?

If you want to keep the car or van but it cannot be driven, recovery may be the right service rather than selling it.

MJ Scrap Cars & Recovery provides car and van recovery across South London and Surrey, including non-running vehicles that need taking home, to a garage or to another destination.

Tell us where the vehicle is, where it needs to go, what type of vehicle it is and whether there are any access or loading difficulties.
